Disney To Increase Spending On Video Game Development

By TronFAQ on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 4:41 PM
According to this Reuters press release, Disney Interactive Studios will have its budget increased by $30 million this year ($130 million, up from $100 million). And within the next five years, it will ramp up to $350 million per year.

Let's hope for their sake that they devote some of that new funding to better customer support, and making more innovative games. Who knows, maybe there's a chance we'll see another new TRON game some day after all. (And maybe another TRON film, too.)

Some day when we're all old and grey, that is.

Weee, 30 millions more to create buggy, useless games? Man, can't await to see those new 'milestones' in video-game-history they might produce with that budget!
Honestly, if they already spent 100 millions of bucks in their games, they must have bought alot of coffee and donuts, 'cuz you cannot find that value in the games. 30 + would mean they'll have donuts with marmelade the next time, right?

lol X, if they are spending it on games, it's for consoles, let's not forget. They get so sick from the beer and pizza, they just make us vomit, when we deal with the result.

Ah yes, consoles, i forgot about them. Those little neat devices, ideal to hide the bugs a game has and supporting the statement 'it is not a bug! it is a feature, which only disappear if you pay extra-money'. The less you, as the customer, know about that what's going on inside of your stuff, the better they can sell you whatever they want.
Consoles, how useful they can be...

I would laugh my face off if they released their own console.

"I would laugh my face off if they released their own console."

I would walk down the street with a sign where you can read 'The end is near, so regret'...

Actually, if Disney was smart (in terms of their bottom line), they would release their own Disney branded console.

Imagine the clout the Disney name would add to a game console, and how many people would buy it just because of the name. If they kept the games "kid safe" and all that, they could make a killing with it.

It could be one of those crummy baby systems like the vtech learning is fun type thing. I could see it selling well. Developing in house titles for those must be a walk in the park. I would think Brand name and licensing is what sells though things

It's all about action/violence, and the band-wagon these days for consoles.

    Well, from what I see.
